This week is Wolf Awareness Week. These amazing animals help keep the WILD in Wildlife.
- Wolves are a Keystone species which means that when they aren’t present in an ecosystem, that ecosystem suffers and may even fail.
- Wolves don’t actually howl at the moon! They do howl to communicate with one another and to warn off would-be intruders!
- Wolves have been known to have a mutualistic relationship with ravens, who show them where prey may be in exchange for a share of the food!
Wolves are so amazing and they deserve to be celebrated every week, but #wolfawarenessweek is a great time to start!
This weekend, as part of our Howl-O-Ween celebration, we will have a special Keeper Talk with those about werewolves and how those myths relate to our special canines.
