Do you like to geocache?

Did you know there’s one located near Wildlife Images?

Not sure what geocaching is? It’s a recreational activity in which participants hunt for and find hidden objects by means of GPS coordinates posted on a website. It’s free, and a good way to get or stay active.

According to the website geocaching.com, this particular item is one of the easier items to find. Rated as just 1.5 stars out of a 5 star rating system, it can still stump even experienced cachers.

Recently, a couple from Alabama stopped by and tried to find the one here. The pair came up empty, but staff at Wildlife Images were on the case and tracked it down. It was a simple cache with just a logbook in it. We upgraded the cache with a larger case and replaced it at the coordinates.

The geocache was placed in 2014 and has been found nearly 40 times. It’s titled “Take a walk on the Wild Side”.

Some rules of geocaching:

  • Geocaches should never be buried or placed in a location that might cause unnecessary concern.
  • Don’t place items such as food, explosives, knives, drugs or alcohol in a geocache.
  • Geocache contents should be family friendly.
  • Respect local laws and obey posted signs, including trespassing signs.
  • If you take something from the cache, leave something of equal or greater value.
  • Write about your find in the cache logbook.
  • Log your experience at www.geocaching.com.

Geocaching can be a fun way to get out and about. There are more than 300 listed geocaches in the Grants Pass area, alone.
