Don’t you just love a helping hand?! We certainly do! We are so grateful for the help we got from our friends at Wildlife Safari! A recent visit had veterinarians Hugo Gonzales and Rodrigo Garces checking in on some patients.
Wildlife Images does not have a veterinarian on staff. Instead, we rely on a brain trust of local vets that consult and support Wildlife Images with their time and talents. These veterinarians are highly skilled but are typically working exclusively with domesticated animals. It was a special treat to have two veterinarians and a vet intern – who all specialize in treating wild animals – onsite and helping!
All told, the team from Wildlife Safari helped with six patients including an American crow, western pond turtle, and two western screech owls. One of those owls needed eye surgery. The owl was prepped in our clinic and the eye was removed. Seeing the animal in need of help and answering that call is something we are so very grateful for! The visiting vets recommended sending the second western screech owl, along with a merlin, to Dr. Cassandra Bliss. After successful treatment, all three birds were released.
