Worthy of Saving…

Our 600th patient arrived in the clinic! While many hope milestone patients will be large birds of prey, adorable baby foxes or an unusual injury we can heal… we are content with whatever comes through our door. Patient #600 was certainly tiny and she arrived all alone after she was separated from her family.

This tiny deer mouse came in all alone and immediately found herself on the bottom of a cuddle pile with a mouse foster family. It may seem unusual to some that we would save animals that many find as a nuisance. However, it’s important to remember that all animals play a role in the ecosystem. Mother Nature knows what she is doing and historically we have been the ones who have gotten in the way. We throw a cog in the wheel of nature by creating easy food sources, destroying habitat, eliminating natural predators, and a myriad of other ways. If you took humans out of the equation nature would go on just as it has for millennia with every creature great and small. We hope that people remember this the next time they think of an animal as insignificant, a nuisance, or unworthy of saving. ❤️
