Red Tailed Hawk
Buteo jamaicensis

Animal Ambassadors
Red Tailed Hawks can be found naturally throughout the majority of North and Central America, and are considered invasive in parts of South America. There are various morphs of Red Tails across different regions. They are highly opportunistic animals who will feed on virtually any species small enough to become prey including small mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. This versatile nature allows them to live in a wide range of climates. Their conservation status is listed as secure, meaning as of this year there is little concern for their population in the wild. They are commonly found in open fields and pastures where they can soar overhead in search of small prey animals.
