Found a Duck, Goose, or Other Waterbird?

The rehabilitation of ADULT waterfowl is currently strictly prohibited by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife due to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).

Wildlife Images is permitted to rehabilitate injured or orphaned ducklings and goslings.

Symptoms of HPAI in Birds

  • Sudden death
  • Neurological signs such as head ticking back and forth, swimming in circles, laying down and “paddling”, tremors, head tilt
  • Nasal discharge, coughing, sneezing
  • Swelling of the eyes and face
  • Diarrhea

Please call the ODFW Wildlife Health Hotline to report a bird you suspect may have HPAI: 866-968-2600

Injured Adult Waterfowl

  • We are allowed to provide humane euthanasia to seriously injured adult waterfowl. Please contact us before bringing in an injured adult waterbird so we can prepare for your arrival and ensure that we are able to offer services.

Orphaned Waterfowl

  • Found a duckling or gosling alone? If the baby (or babies) has been alone for 30 or more minutes with no adults in sight, call our Wildlife Hospital hotline at 541-441-7193 for further assistance.

Carefully contain the animal(s) in a secure and ventilated box and bring it to Wildlife Images for medical care and rehabilitation during our patient intake hours, 9am-4:30pm 7 days a week. We prefer if you call ahead so we can prepare for the animal’s arrival, and to ensure that our clinic is able to provide rehabilitation services.

***Do NOT offer food or water to an injured, sick, or orphaned animal unless instructed to do so by clinic staff. Many species require a specialized diet or formula, and young animals and birds can be easily aspirated without proper training and equipment.***
