Meet Phantom and Fury, the bald eagles named in honor of Sergeant Marty Gonzalez and everyone who served in the second battle of Fallujah, Operation Phantom Fury.
Phantom is our new older bald eagle, he is about the same size as our other male, Defiance, at about 8-9 lbs. He is goofy and loves his food which has really helped in his training! Due to his white plumage we do not have an accurate age for him, but we estimate he is still a younger eagle due to his mannerisms.
Fury is our younger female eagle and she is incredibly intelligent and has adjusted well to human care. She weighs about the same as our other female bald eagle, Ms. Jefferson, also called MJ, at about 11-12 lbs! She is built very tall and elegant but we expect her to fill out as she ages. With her head plumage, we estimate she’ll be turning 3 next spring, as bald eagles will not have fully white heads and tails until they reach 5 years of age. We are excited to see her change and grow in the next few years!
These two birds are the future of our bird program and we are so lucky to have them! Naming them after Sergeant Marty Gonzalez, and everyone who served in Operation Phantom Fury, is an incredible honor.
We look forward to the day these birds are trained well enough, so we can share the inspiring stories behind their names with park visitors.
