Niles the sandhill crane has officially moved to our Critter Creek exhibit! Diana Dapcevich works closely with Niles. She reported, “He immediately made himself at home, and now spends his days foraging along the creek bed and socializing with all the visitors that walk by.”
Sandhill Cranes are Social Creatures
Diana explained, “Sandhill Cranes spend a lot of time socializing with each other in wild. Therefore, it’s important for Niles to have access to many opportunities for engaging in socializing behaviors. The layout of the Critter Creek enclosure allows him to have so many different interactions with people. Guests are always commenting on the beautiful bird that walks with them as they explore the park!”
Niles was Rescued as an Egg
For those of you who may not know. Niles was rescued as an egg after a brush fire. He hatched in captivity and imprinted on humans since birth. Niles is a gift who brings great joy to our team and supporters.
